Joshua Cole “Intimate Acts and Unspeakable Relations: Remembering Torture and the War for Algerian Independence” June 19th

The next meeting of Postcolonial Texts will discuss Joshua Cole’s chapter “Intimate Acts and Unspeakable Relations: Remembering Torture and the War for Algerian Independence,” from Alec Hargreave’s edited text  Memory, Empire and Postcolonialism: Legacies of French Colonialism (Lanham, MD: Lexington Books, 2005). This chapter discusses the ritualistic and performative aspect of torture within the context of the Algerian War for Independence.

We will meet in SR2 of the LHRI at 3pm on Friday 19 June.
