Amin Maalouf ‘In the Name of Identity’ Tues 24th Feb 4.30pm

In our last meeting we discussed the themes of violence and national identity in Fanon’s Wretched of the Earth.

For our second meeting of the new Postcolonial Texts reading group, we will follow up on this discussion with an extract entitled ‘Taming the Panther’ (‘Apprivoiser la panthère) from Amin Maalouf’s 1998 essay In the Name of Identity (Les Identités meurtrières).

The extract in the original French can be found here: ‘Apprivoiser la panthere’ Maalouf (1998) Grasset & Fasquelle, and the English translation by Barbara Bray: ‘Taming the Panther’ Maalouf (2012) Arcade Publishing.

The take meeting will take place 4.30-6 pm, Tuesday 24th February in Seminar Room 2 in the Leeds Humanities Research Institute, the University of Leeds. You can a copy of the campus map here.

All are welcome! Venez nombreux!
